Remembering Efe and Aida n Why do we wear the numbers 10 and 47 on our jersey sleeves? The numbers pay tribute to two young YCC players from the Bay Area who passed away and whose team spirit and camaraderie will be remembered. Efejon Ustenci | #10 August 3, 1998 - June 22, 2016 Berkeley High School Class of 2016 YCC teams: Aftershock, Red Dawn Efejon, affectionately known as “Efe,” was a team leader, friend, and mentor. He was an astounding athlete, playing both rugby and Ultimate in high school. Efe was a player who wore his emotions proudly, and was an intense and inspiring young man. Efe celebrated great plays, both his teammates' and his own, he would cry in the face of difficult defeats, and he was unafraid to call out his teammates and demand from them the work ethic and integrity that he exemplified. Efe was also the first to congratulate an opponent on exceptional play, was a player who always listened to and acted upon advice from any source, and was among the first to notice a shy freshman who needed a throwing buddy and make a new friend. Efe embodied Spirit of the Game. Efe’s compassion and enthusiasm for Ultimate are with us on the field in every game. He mastered long beautiful angular forehand hucks over a lifetime of throwing a disc - starting on the sidelines of his parents' games as a toddler. Aidan’s calm, steady presence, love of strategy, and ability to see the whole field made him a natural center handler. But his real gift was his unbreakable commitment to his teammates and spirit of the game. Aidan knew just when to pump up the team with wild and wacky (and loud) cheers and when to envelope someone in a massive bear hug. His confidence, love, and enthusiasm made you believe in yourself. His unlikely combination of creative fun and focused commitment helped his teammates achieve incredible success together, win or lose. Aidan’s love and spirit of the game are with all of us on the line, every point we play.

YCC Coach Applications What does being a YCC Coach entail? Inspire the new generation of players by becoming a YCC Coach! Tryouts are in Jan and Feb, practices are in June and July, and the travel tournament is the first weekend of Aug. Read the 2026 job description to learn more about the commitment and benefits. Apply now Coaching Positions YCC Head Coach YCC Head Coach is responsible for recruiting players from within the community, running tryouts, selecting the roster, creating a season plan YCC Assistant Coach The YCC Assistant Coach assists in the design and development of the season plan and helps implement it by providing assistance during practices, and games. YCC Junior Coach The YCC Junior Coach is a volunteer position for ultimate players who want to become coaches. In this role, the Junior Coach will be a “coach in training”

Registration Deadline 9/29 About Cali Roll Established in 2013, Cali Roll is a high school level ultimate club team formed to provide our players the opportunity for competitive play in the girlx division. As more playing opportunities have emerged over time, Cali Roll continues to bring together players from across the Bay Area to play at a high level. Program Details Values Inclusiveness Team building Leadership Individual skill development Players We are looking for players aged 12-18 who embody our team values. Players that are selected to join the traveling roster will be asked to pay a $325 registration fee that covers coaches, fields, and insurance for the entire season. Players also will be responsible for paying their own travel expenses and additional tournament fees. Scholarships and financial assistance are available. Tryouts To participate in all Gold Rush events including tryouts, all players must, at a minimum, have an affiliate membership with USA Ultimate. For tryouts please bring cleats, your own snacks, and water. We encourage players to attend all days of tryouts. Please let us know if you have conflicts with any dates Roster We expect to name a full roster of up to 25 players on Cali Roll. Practices California Roll will practice 1-2 times monthly from November through March, often in the East Bay with some rotation to the Peninsula or San Francisco. Tournaments Cali Roll typically plays in one tournament per month from January to March. The 2026-27 schedule is still being finalized, but the team will likely participate in the following tournaments: January - Santa Barbara Qualifiers February - Sky Leap, and/or local youth tournament (TBD) March - Emerald City Challenge in Seattle Fundraising Players are expected to participate in team fundraising activities. Funds raised from these events will be used to subsidize team expenses such as tournament fees and travel costs, as well as provide financial assistance. Meet the Coaches Head Coach Lindi Lindi began coaching girls’ high school ultimate in 2008 by helping found the Radnor High School Girls’ team outside of Philadelphia. Upon arriving in the Bay Area, she was recruited to help found and coach California Roll, which at the time was the sole girls’ team in the Bay Area (thankfully that’s changed!). She has helped transform Cali Roll into a competitive traveling team while continuing to foster its inclusiveness. Her primary focus is building individual skills and sewing them into the fabric of a team. Coach Vienna Vienna began playing ultimate frisbee here in the Bay Area and has been on many high school open, girls, and mixed teams, including Cali Roll. She is returning as coach after the shortened 2019-20 season and after graduating from UCSB where she played and captained for the Burning Skirts. She is a player on Sunshine, a Bay Area mixed team, and is excited to grow the team with her high school, college, and club experiences. Coach Thalia Thalia started playing ultimate frisbee here in the Bay Area. She played on Cali Roll (the first year!) and Happy Cows as a youth, Cal Poly SLO Motion in college, and various club Women’s and Gender Expansive teams since then. She has also coached at the Bay Area Disc Camps and the National Ultimate Training Camp in Massachusetts. Now living back in Oakland and playing for Nightlock, Thalia is excited to start coaching the next generation of ultimate players from the Bay!

ABOUT YCC USA Ultimate's Youth Club Championships has been the pinnacle of youth ultimate since its inaugural year in 2005. Beginning in 2010, the Bay Area began sending all-star teams to this tournament to represent the Bay Area’s best. Teams from the Bay Area have already claimed gold four times — most recently in 2024, when Belly of the Beast were crowned champions of the U17 Girls division. Additionally, Belly of the Beast won the Team Spirit Award in 2018 and California Current won it in 2023. Efe was an incredible player, leader, and friend in the ultimate community. Each year, Efe Ustenci Scholarship covers expenses for 2 YCC players who embody exceptional spirit of the game, leadership, and compassion. Club Team Coaches U-20 Boys: Gold Rush Manisha "Slap" Daryani Slap has coached Gold Rush since its inception in 2018. She previously coached at the college level for seven years, as head coach of the UC Davis and UC Berkeley women’s teams. A UCSD alum, Slap played in the elite club division for 17 years before retiring in 2019 to coach full time. She is also the owner and head coach of the local women’s pro team, the Bay Area Falcons. Elijah "Eli" Kerns Eli is returning for his fourth year with Gold Rush. In the inaugural Gold Rush season he served as an assistant coach, and is now a co-coach. He previously served as head coach for the UC Davis men’s team in addition to helping run local youth clinics throughout the Bay Area. Eli is a product of the Bay Area youth scene himself, notching several state championship wins with Alameda Dark Meat before winning national championships with Polar Bears in the Club Mixed division and Revolver in the Open division, respectively. Caleb Merriam Caleb returns to Gold Rush for the second year after working with the team last year. Caleb began playing Ultimate in 10th grade in D.C. and has played Ultimate ever since. He played in the college division at Cal Poly and is currently playing on the local club team, Revolver. His previous coaching experience includes Cal Poly, where he coached from 2019-2021, and Red Dawn, who he coached in 2022. U-20 Girls: Cali Roll Lindi Sabloff Lindi began coaching girls high school ultimate in 2008 by helping found the Radnor High School Girls team outside of Philadelphia. Upon arriving in the Bay Area she was recruited to help found and coach California Roll, which at that time was the sole girls team in the Bay Area (thankfully that's changed!). She has helped transform Cali Roll into a competitive traveling team while continuing to foster its inclusive-ness. Her primary focus is building individual skills and sewing them into the fabric of a team. Anne Marie "Puma" Gordon Puma began playing ultimate frisbee while teaching middle and high school in the Dominican Republic. She got her first taste of coaching by running an after-school ultimate frisbee team for her students. A few years later, she moved to California for graduate school and played for Stanford Superfly, as well as on several club teams over the past few years. Anne Marie joined as a Cali Roll coach in 2017-18.
