Things to note:
- All players must have completed the registration form and paid the registration fee prior to trying out.

For tryouts, please bring cleats, a light shirt and a dark shirt, and your own snacks and water bottle.

Reversible pinnies will be provided.

$15 tryout fee will be invoiced prior to the event.

About Cali Roll
Established in 2013, Cali Roll is a high school level ultimate club team formed to provide our players the opportunity for competitive play in the girlx division. As more playing opportunities have emerged over time, Cali Roll continues to bring together players from across the Bay Area to play at a high level.

We are looking for players aged 12-18 who embody our team values.

Players that are selected to join the traveling roster will be asked to pay a $325 registration fee that covers coaches, fields, and insurance for the entire season.

Players also will be responsible for paying their own travel expenses and additional tournament fees.

Scholarships and financial assistance are available.
Tryouts
To participate in all Gold Rush events including tryouts, all players must, at a minimum, have an affiliate membership with USA Ultimate.

For tryouts please bring cleats, your own snacks, and water.

We encourage players to attend all days of tryouts.

Roster
We expect to name a full roster of up to 25 players on Cali Roll.
Practices
California Roll will practice 1-2 times monthly from November through March, often in the East Bay with some rotation to the Peninsula or San Francisco.
Tournaments
Cali Roll typically plays in one tournament per month from January to March. The 2026-27 schedule is still being finalized, but the team will likely participate in the following tournaments:

January - Santa Barbara Qualifiers

February - Sky Leap, and/or local youth tournament (TBD)

March - Emerald City Challenge in Seattle
Fundraising
Players are expected to participate in team fundraising activities. Funds raised from these events will be used to subsidize team expenses such as tournament fees and travel costs, as well as provide financial assistance.

Meet the Coaches
Head Coach
Lindi
Lindi began coaching girls’ high school ultimate in 2008 by helping found the Radnor High School Girls’ team outside of Philadelphia. Upon arriving in the Bay Area, she was recruited to help found and coach California Roll, which at the time was the sole girls’ team in the Bay Area (thankfully that’s changed!). She has helped transform Cali Roll into a competitive traveling team while continuing to foster its inclusiveness. Her primary focus is building individual skills and sewing them into the fabric of a team.
Coach
Vienna
Vienna began playing ultimate frisbee here in the Bay Area and has been on many high school open, girls, and mixed teams, including Cali Roll. She is returning as coach after the shortened 2019-20 season and after graduating from UCSB where she played and captained for the Burning Skirts. She is a player on Sunshine, a Bay Area mixed team, and is excited to grow the team with her high school, college, and club experiences.

Thalia
Thalia started playing ultimate frisbee here in the Bay Area. She played on Cali Roll (the first year!) and Happy Cows as a youth, Cal Poly SLO Motion in college, and various club Women’s and Gender Expansive teams since then. She has also coached at the Bay Area Disc Camps and the National Ultimate Training Camp in Massachusetts. Now living back in Oakland and playing for Nightlock, Thalia is excited to start coaching the next generation of ultimate players from the Bay!
