YCC 2025 TEAM COACHES
U-17 Girls: Belly of the Beast
Carolyn Stewart

Carolyn started playing ultimate with the Cal Women’s team, when they were Rhythm Method and helped rename the team, the Pie Queens. She co-captained the team to Nationals with a roster of 10 players where the Pie Queens finished tied for 3rd. She went on to play women’s and mixed club in the Bay Area and in the NY Metro Area, including playing at Nationals with W.U.P.A.S.S.
Carolyn has coached middle school ultimate since 2016 and BADA clinics the last few years. She’s currently the head coach of Purple Reign, the Piedmont Middle School team. She joined BUYA last year as part of the coaching team for Belly of the Beast and is excited to return for a second year.

U-20 Girls: California Current

Chris Godek
(he/him/his)
Chris Godek began his Ultimate journey with Pacific Lutheran University, Reign, in 2004, quickly developing a deep love for the sport. After relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, he immersed himself in the local Ultimate scene, playing in beach and recreation leagues. His dedication to Ultimate led him to co-found Firefly, a mixed club team. Transitioning from player to coach, Chris now leverages his extensive experience to mentor the next generation of Ultimate players. He currently coaches Berkeley High's Girls team, Hysteria, and has an immense passion for growing the sport at all levels while constantly looking for ways to increase opportunities for players. This is his third year coaching with BUYA.
Rachel Chang

Rachel began playing ultimate in middle school in the Bay Area, gaining experience from Heartbreak, Gunn, Cali Roll, and various YCC programs (Belly, Current, Cows, Dawn). They’ve also played with the U20 and U24 national teams, San Francisco Fury, and Sol, the women’s division team at UC Santa Cruz.
This will be their first year coaching YCC. They’re eager to give back to the Bay Area ultimate community by getting to know and support the next generation of players.

U-20 Boys: Red Dawn
Vienna Lee
(she/her/hers)
Vienna is excited to be coaching YCCs again after her time with the 2020 Belly of the Beast team. She started her ultimate journey in the Bay Area and played for a number of high school teams, including Foothill (open), Alameda (mixed), Bentley (girls), Cali Roll, Happy Cows, and California Current. Most recently, she graduated from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), where she spent the last three years playing, captaining, and making three appearances at Nationals with the Burning Skirts.
Her passion for ultimate continues as she now captains Sunshine Ultimate, coaches Cali Roll, and helps with UCSB. Vienna is thrilled to give back to the community and help teach the next generation of Bay Area ultimate players.
Pavel Shering
An international import from Russia and later Canada where his Ultimate career began in 2009 as a freshman in high school, Pavel slowly molded himself into a defensive hybrid on the field. Pavel has been a U24 Team Canada prospect; played with Toronto's Roy and GrandTrunk, and played at PAUC in 2019 with Houndd. Once moving to the Bay Area he joined the Oakland Spiders UFA in 2022, along with Berkeley's Zyzzyva Club ultimate roster.
He started coaching Spiders clinics in 2022 and joined the Berkeley HS coaching staff in 2024. An easy way to spot him on the field is to follow loud sounds; look for the guy yelling about running sprints and raving to someone else's speaker. Outside of Ultimate, Pavel is probably playing other sports, coding, gaming ,or building robots.
